Halliburton CEO Jeff Miller. On the record: "The frac calendar white space in the first half of the year is now gone."
White space is the dead time on a pumping calendar. The gaps where crews get stacked, hours get cut, and trucks sit idle. Halliburton just told Wall Street those gaps are filled. Then he said: "I am excited about North America. We see a recovery in progress."
What the CEOs Said
Diamondback Energy CEO Kaes Van't Hof — Diamondback's Viper Energy platform sees roughly half of all Permian activity. He told analysts the Permian rig count is going up 25 to 30 rigs by year-end. Then he formally retired Diamondback's capital discipline framework and flipped it to green. Added 2 to 3 rigs. Kept a fifth frac crew on the calendar year-round instead of releasing it mid-year. That is one crew — roughly 30 hands across frac, wireline, and water transfer — that would have been home. They are working. "If this isn't a signal to grow production in an advantaged area like the Permian Basin, then I don't know what is."
ConocoPhillips put it plainest. 10 million barrels a day has been offline for two months. 200 LNG cargoes that were supposed to sail out of Qatar never moved. Import-dependent countries are looking at critical shortages by June or July. The marginal barrel on the planet right now is American.
EOG Resources raised production guidance without raising the budget. ExxonMobil reaffirmed 1.8 million barrels a day out of the Permian alone — on the way to 2.5 million by 2030. Continental Resources cancelled its planned capex cut and named the Bakken first. Chevron told analysts they have no intention of selling the Bakken.
The Bottom Line
Baker Hughes rig count up four straight weeks to 551. The Permian added 9 rigs in the last month alone. On May 15 a $13 billion LNG export terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana took its final investment decision. The world's largest oil company is buying American gas before the plant is built.
Every one of these CEOs sat in front of a microphone their lawyers vetted and said the same thing in three weeks. The American patch is the safety valve for the entire planet. The calendar is filling. The rigs are coming. The contracts are signed. The people on those rigs and frac spreads already knew that. The difference is now it is in the transcripts.
