Two seasons on Paramount+. 35 million people watched the premiere...most-watched debut in Paramount+ history. Real hands were among them. With opinions.

What They Nailed

The language is solid...spudding, wildcatting, mineral rights, all used correctly. The wealth gap between roughnecks and operators is real. The boom-town hunger is real. The man camps, the financial pressure, the fact that billionaires and field hands exist in the same world and somehow make it work...that part hits because it's true.

Real roughnecks were on set. Real rigs. They hired an ex-oilfield hand to call flags every single day. They tried.

What Would Send You Home In An Ambulance

Standing on unsecured pipe that would roll and put you on the ground before anyone called it. Pipe wrenches held backward. Gas detectors that would be screaming in every scene filmed near a wellhead. Emergency response that would get a real company shut down by OSHA before the credits rolled.

The guy calling flags on set was outvoted by the cinematographer every time.

What They Think The Job Is

Crisis executive. Shows up when things go sideways. Drives a clean truck. Talks billionaires out of bad decisions. Occasionally punches someone.

What The Job Actually Is

Courthouse records. Deed chains. Figuring out who actually owns the minerals under a piece of ground...which isn't always the guy who owns the surface. Then knocking on that door, negotiating the lease, and making sure every signature holds up when a lawyer looks at it. Wrong owner, bad terms, one missed renewal...the well doesn't get drilled. He manages that paper through the entire life of the well. Royalties, joint operating agreements, farm-outs, title disputes. Field landmen work courthouses and front porches. In-house landmen keep the legal stack from collapsing at the operator level.

No lease, no permit. No permit, no location. No location, nobody works.

Season 3 is confirmed. The oilfield will be watching.

Every one of them now knows what a landman is.

Zero of them know what you actually do.
