1 in 5 oilfield deaths happen alone. Miles from help. No one to call. Cardiac events, falls, exposure. Contractors take most of the hits.
This isn't a statistic that gets talked about much. The oilfield conversation around safety is almost always about what happens on location — falling equipment, H2S, wellbore pressure. But the guy who drives out to a remote battery alone, collapses from a cardiac event, and isn't found for hours — that's just as real.
Check In. Don't Go Silent.
If you work alone in the field, build a check-in system. A buddy who calls if they don't hear from you by a certain time. A dispatcher with a check-in schedule. Something that means someone knows where you are and when they should expect to hear from you.
