Not because the work was too hard.

Not because the hours were too long.

Not because he couldn't handle it physically.

He quit because his girlfriend gave him an ultimatum:

"It's me or the job."

He chose her.

Three days later, she left him anyway.

Now he's got no job, no girl, and no plan.

Here's the thing nobody tells you about working in the oilfield:

Not everyone in your life is going to support it.

They'll complain about the schedule.

They'll resent the money you make.

They'll guilt you for missing events.

They'll tell you there are "easier ways" to make a living.

And some of them will make you choose.

The oilfield or them.

Here's what I learned:

Anyone who makes you choose between your career and them doesn't actually want what's best for you.

They want what's convenient for them.

The right people will understand.

They'll support the grind.

They'll appreciate the sacrifice.

They'll celebrate the wins with you.

The wrong people will sabotage you every chance they get.

And when you finally give in and quit for them?

They'll lose respect for you anyway.

Because deep down, they know you gave up something important.

I'm not saying the oilfield is more important than relationships.

I'm saying the right relationship won't make you choose.

If someone can't handle you working hard and making good money, that's not your problem to fix.

That's theirs.

Have you ever had to choose between the job and someone in your life? How'd it turn out?
