Your company offers free certifications? Take them. Every single one.
CDL training? Take it.
Crane cert? Take it.
H2S, SafeLand, PEC, HAZMAT? All of it.
First aid, forklift, rigging, NCCCO? Don't pass it up.
They're paying. You're building a resume that actually means something.
I get it, right now you're busy, you don't think you need it, or it's not part of your current job. But here's the truth: when layoffs come (and they always do), your resume needs to have more than just "X years experience."
I've seen guys with a decade in the field get passed over for younger hands who had better paper. It sucks, but that's how it works now.
The oilfield is boom and bust. You saw the post, $90 billion in acquisitions, and half the companies you started with don't even exist anymore. The guys who make it through are the ones who stacked certs when times were good.
Every cert is a door you can walk through later.
Every license is leverage when you're negotiating pay.
Every training is something the next company doesn't have to pay for, which makes you cheaper and easier to hire.
You're literally getting paid to sit in a class while the company covers the cost. That's not a hassle. That's an opportunity most people outside this industry never get.
Take everything they offer. Build the stack. Because when things slow down, you want options, not regrets.
What certs have helped you land work or move up?
