9.5 MILLION pounds. On its side. On fire. Everyone walked away.

Doyon 26, the largest mobile land rig in North America, toppled yesterday at 4:45 PM on Alaska's North Slope near Kuparuk.

What Happened

Temperature was around 27°F, warm for January up north. Fire broke out and was contained by evening. All personnel safe. No pipeline or environmental damage. Confirmed by ConocoPhillips and Alaska officials.

Why It Matters

Drilled a 6.7-mile horizontal well, land rig record. Can reach 40,000+ feet. Can develop 154 square miles from one pad. Hauled north in 270 tractor-trailer loads. Cost tens of millions, built to avoid new gravel pads.

They call it "The Beast" for a reason.

The Question Nobody's Answering

Full rig. Full topple. Fire. Same route it's traveled before.

Road failure? Load shift? Equipment malfunction? Human error?

We don't know and probably won't for weeks.

If you've worked the North Slope or moved heavy rigs on ice/gravel roads, you already have a theory.
