Monday night, 11:15 PM. Nacogdoches County, East Texas. An oil well on FM 226 blew out and went up.
Flames were visible from 20 miles away. Residents reported the explosion shook their houses. 26 workers on site — all evacuated. No injuries reported.
At 3:20 AM the derrick collapsed.
FM 226 is closed from Highway 103 to the Kingtown area. Residents on CR 561 evacuated. CR 560, 559, and 5591 on shelter in place or voluntary evacuation.
Multiple agencies responded — Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, Texas DPS, Texas Division of Emergency Management, and local fire crews. Wild Well Control out of Houston is now on scene handling fire suppression. Equipment still arriving to shut it down.
Whether it's oil or gas, the result is the same — someone's crew had one of those nights and they all made it out. That's what matters.
Fire is still burning as of this morning.
