Christmas Day?
I was on location.
New Year's Eve?
I was rigging up at 11 PM.
While everyone else was with their families, opening presents, counting down to midnight, making resolutions?
I was working.
And I'm not saying that for sympathy.
I'm saying it because that's the trade.
You miss the holidays.
You miss the birthdays.
You miss the moments everyone else gets to celebrate.
But here's what they don't tell you:
When you're off, you're actually off.
No emails.
No phone calls from your boss.
No "quick question" on a Saturday morning.
You get real time off.
And when everyone else is grinding through January, broke from Christmas spending, dreading going back to work?
You've already stacked your first paycheck of the year.
You've already put money away.
You've already set yourself up while they're still recovering.
That's the difference.
They get the holidays.
We get the life.
They get the time off in small pieces.
We get it in chunks.
They work all year for two weeks of vacation.
We work hard and get paid for it.
Is it worth missing Christmas?
Depends on what you value.
But when you're sitting at home in February, fully paid up, no debt, not stressing about money?
While they're still paying off their holiday spending?
Yeah.
It's worth it.
Did you work the holidays? What did you miss?
