Why It Moved

The Houthis stopped threatening and started firing. Overnight they hit two Saudi tankers off Saudi Arabia with missiles and drones. The confirmed one is the Encelia, crew fighting a fire onboard right now. A second supertanker they're claiming is still unconfirmed tonight. It comes off a blockade they slapped on Saudi ports Monday that's already turned at least nine loaded tankers around in the Red Sea.

And it's not just the Middle East. Up on Russia's Black Sea coast, Kazakhstan just stopped piping crude to the CPC terminal at Novorossiysk after drone strikes spooked the tanker companies...roughly 1.6 million barrels a day of mostly Kazakh oil that quit moving this week, and the port itself has gone to nighttime-only navigation. Barrels coming off the market on two fronts at once.

What It Means on Location

Straight talk before the raise rumors start. A price spike doesn't touch your check next week...operators set their budgets months ago and don't rewrite them over a headline that could reverse on a ceasefire. Paychecks move in quarters, not sessions.

The service side is already leaning that way...Liberty dropped Q2 tonight at 1.19 billion in revenue, a beat, with core earnings up 20% from last quarter, and said frac markets improved and pricing is recovering off the lows. Rig count's crept up five straight weeks to 588, highest since April 2025. Don't call it a boom...some yards are slammed and some hands are sitting. But every barrel that can't move keeps a premium under the price, and a premium that sticks is what turns into iron and hours 60 to 90 days out.
