What This Job Is

Bottom rung on a workover crew, and the seat that hires with no rig time.

You're on the floor. Rig up, rig down, hand tools, guy wires and jacks, keeping the deck clear while the tubing comes out of the hole. Crew runs 4 to 5 on a well service rig, so there's nowhere to hide and nobody expects you to know it yet.

12 hour shifts. Frequent 50 lb lifts, 100 lb with a partner, and climbing is part of the day.

Duties

• Floor hand and derrick hand work on a service rig, rigging up and rigging down.
• Elevated work off the tubing board, rod basket and derrick.
• Running pipe and casing: positioning, lifting, attaching and installing drill pipe, tubing and casing.
• Assisting with mud pump operation and maintenance.
• Every task run to Fortis standard operating procedures and safety regs.
