Some print an hourly rate, some pay by the load, some pay a percentage of the load, and some list competitive pay without a printed number. Each seat page states which one applies to that job.
Load and percentage pay is normal in this basin and it is not a dodge, but it does mean your check moves with how busy the customer is. Ask what a typical week looked like last month before you take the seat. For what the same roles have actually posted across North Dakota, read the North Dakota oilfield pay index, where every number is what a company said it pays. That index is North Dakota only. Casper, Waskom, Grande Prairie and the New Mexico apprenticeship aren't in it and never feed it.
If you do not hold a licence yet, the shop and office seats on this page are still open to you: Fastenal's seats in Williston, Watford City and Minot are all on the supply side, sales, fulfillment and supply chain, and not one of them asks for a licence.
Fortis lists a CDL as preferred, not required, on all 6 rig hand seats across both yards, and asks for none on either mechanic. Those seats want rig time instead. The Waskom mechanic is the one that hires green.
Nor-Tana's pipeline and facility operator and multi-skill field operator (SWD) seats in Watford City ask for no CDL either. They want a driver license with a clean record and field time instead: 2 to 5 years in midstream on the pipeline seat, 1 year in field operations on the multi-skill seat.
TTK's heavy equipment operator and shop welder seats in Watford City ask for no CDL. The equipment operator seat wants a driver license with a CDL preferred, and the welder wants 2 years of MIG and TIG with a clean driving record.
Midstream Operators University's apprenticeship in New Mexico asks for no CDL and no experience.
Castle's hot oil and hydrotester seats take a Class B or better. On hydrotester you will likely be hauling the test unit yourself.
Wayne's hot oil seat in Watford City takes a Class A or B, with a Class A preferred since they pull pup trailers.
TTK's hydrovac operator seat in Watford City takes a Class B or higher, or a CDL permit.
TTK's side dump seat wants a CDL with the endorsements a side dump needs.
The other driving seats want a Class A. Some of those specifically want a manual, either stated as no automatic restriction or as 18-speed proficiency, and some want tanker. Some want hazmat in hand. Housing varies by company and by yard. Some of these seats include it, some do not, and not every yard pays relocation. Each seat page states what that seat offers. It matters if you are coming from out of state, because Williston and Dickinson rent is the thing that eats a first check.
North Point pays weekly W2 on Fridays, which is worth knowing if you are moving in without a cushion.
